DRAFT.....................or possibly daft...
ALONE....
When something is ALONE, it is by itself.
In the case of an inanimate object, there is no choice involved. The object will not know if it's ALONE or not. This only changes when used as an adverb, case 2. For example: If we have 2 peers supporting a bridge and one is destroyed, the remaining peer may or may not be able to support the bridge and may be destroyed if  the spans collapses.
In the case of animate objects, there may or may not be choice involved.
If the entity can notice it's ALONE, it may feel some "sorrow", "remorse", "loneliness" , especially if the aloneness is not voluntary and will usually exhibit this in often recognizable forms.
I realize that these terms anthropomorphize human feelings onto non-human  entities but it is possible to see this occur in the world around us.
Finally, we come to the case of Homo Sapiens.
We are a complex pile of emotions when dealing with the concepts of ALONE.
One can be ALONE by choice, by chance, or by others design. Reactions can vary widely between sexes, age, religion, nationality or upbringing.
